The future of EU livestock sector - sustainability

The European Commission has published the external study, ‘Study on Future of EU livestock: How to contribute to a sustainable agricultural sector?’, to contribute to the debate on the sustainability of the livestock sector. The EU-28 produced 47 million tons of meat in 2017, comprised of pig meat (50%), poultry meat (31%), beef (17%), and sheep and goat meat (2%). Pork is the animal protein of choice in European diets, with an annual per capita consumption of 31.3 kg.
