Detection of oocysts is a hallmark of the diagnosis of coccidiosis, including suckling piglet cystoisosporosis. However, in practice rapid and simple detection is often severely hampered by the high fat content of suckling piglet samples.

Ascaris suum infections remain an important threat to the pig industry. A number of studies have been done in the last years regarding diagnosis, treatment and control. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of A. suum in Belgium and to identify associations with farm management practices.

Reports of biting midges are rare in the literature. The importance of parasitic
arthropods to pig production depends of the geographical location and the
production system used. The direct economic impact of biting midges on pig
production has not been studied
